Ex-Girlfriend

A year had passed since they broke-up but Raghav never found the reason why he left Anjali. She loved him and he too loved her, they were together for six years and then suddenly one day Raghav felt that they did not fit together.

He woke-up with strong headache and went out to get his morning tea, it was month of January and winter in Lucknow was at its peak, even at eleven-o-clock in the morning one could not see the sun. When Raghav came back, he opened the drawer of his table and looked at the visiting which was lying there for over three years. It was Anjali who had got the reference for him and gave him that visiting card.

Raghav had his own personal challenges and at times felt alone and lost even when he was with her.

“I know you had a difficult childhood but it doesn’t mean that you will spoil your whole life because of that” Anjali would tell him and console him.

It was one such day, he was feeling lonely and helpless and wanted to be with Anjali. Raghav did try to patch-up with Anjali and went to her house last month but her mother did not let him meet her. She told him that Anjali did not want meet anyone, he had destroyed her life.

All he could do was destroy lives, he did destroy life of his mother at his birth, thought Raghav.

Raghav took out the visiting card and read the address, Anjali always wanted him to make this visit. Raghav was ready for the visit in his light blue sweater which Anjali had chosen for him and put on the wrist watch which she gifted him on his nineteenth birthday.
It was dense fog outside by seven in the evening, the journey of twenty minutes took him more than thirty minutes.

The flat of the Doctor was on third floor of the building in Gomtinagar, he looked the nameplate which read Dr. Ragini Sharma.

Raghav stared at the name for some time and contemplating whether he should ring the bell or go back.

‘I knew you will come’, he thought someone whispered in his ears, but there was no one around. He rang the bell.

Raghav was stunned when the door opened, how this could be even possible. He was spellbound, suddenly the girl took his hands in her hands and pulled him in.

It was pitch dark inside the house, the only light that was coming was from the open door behind him, there were no windows in the house, a ceiling fan was rotating slowly and a rope was hanging from it.

Ceiling fan in the month of January, thought Raghav. He slapped himself to check whether he was dreaming.

How come it was possible that his ex-girlfriend who committed suicide last week by hanging herself from the ceiling fan was standing in-front of him.

As he realized the gravity of the situation, he turned back to run but the door closed with a thud and all he could see were two eyes near the door which were signing like a white bulb.

Raghav moved back, he was standing exactly below the ceiling fan and the rope was just above his head.

Suddenly someone grabbed him from the back and put the rope around his neck. He tried to run away but could not move.

Slowly the noose tightened around his neck on its own, ceiling fan was still rotating.

A few seconds later Raghav was barely able to breathe, his feet were few inches above the ground.
